Quality and guarantees

3D printers have become very popular and most beginners believe that 3D hands are a simple process. But when faced with the first problems of 3D printing, due to the lack of experience, they "look for the enemy" in the fact that in front of their eyes is plastic or a 3D printer. But in the vast majority of cases, the problem is in setting up the printing process or not having a deep enough understanding of the 3D printer device.

 

As for 3D plastic, the quality criteria are quite simple:

 

1. A rod diameter of 1.7 to 1.8 mm is considered acceptable, we consider larger deviations as defects and such plastic must be replaced. Despite the fact that such deviations from the nominal value of 1.75 mm are only 2.5 percent. For example, if you print with a 0.4 mm nozzle and a 0.25 mm layer, then with deviations in the rod diameter from 1.7 to 1.8 mm, the actual width of the extrusion line will vary from 0.39 to 0.41 mm. Such fluctuations cannot be determined with almost any caliper, let alone seen with the naked eye.
Teflon tubes have an internal diameter of 2 mm, which means that even a 1.9 mm rod should not get stuck in the printer channel.

 

2. Absence of solid particles larger than 0.1 mm in the rod (minimum nozzle size). We filter the polymer melt from solid particles larger 0.08 mm. That is, the concept of a clogged nozzle with our plastic is a fantasy.
We do not even consider such claims

 

3. The rod should not be too brittle or have micropores (bubbles, voids). If the rod breaks under minimal loads, for example, like vermicelli, has microvoids (bubbles) on the surface or inside, then such a rod must be replaced (it is defective). This indicates a violation of the production technology - underdried raw materials or thermal destruction of the polymer. Such defects are very clearly visible when macro shooting with maximum zoom.

Many problems with 3D printing are caused by moisture that gets into the rod after production. No matter how much we dry the plastic before packaging, moisture will inevitably get into the rod during storage, since PE bags do not protect 100% from moisture in the external environment. Therefore, after purchasing a 3D printer, the next thing you should think about is how you will dry and store the filament. That is why we do not consider such claims and do not consider wet plastic to be a defect.


Sometimes it happens that on the surface of the rod there is dust that is attracted by static electricity from the air. This is easily done by placing a dry soft cloth or a piece of padding polyester in front of the 3D printer extruder.
